Home Depot Trail

Though I hope loyal blog readers are enjoying my new found love for poetry, I am starting to worry about the context of appropriation being just for the likes of Emily Dickinson. Sometimes my verbal skills just are not up to par.

Here was the view on our way to Home Depot today. Kind of an oxymoron. I just wanted to make sure you all stay posted for the application of the Home Depot adventure. This included trying to talk the manager out of taking a jack hammer to the demo sink by selling it to me instead. And I didn't even really like it.

fete de maman

chris and laura's apples
crown jewels

A Drop Fell On The Apple Tree by Emily Dickinson.

A drop fell on the apple tree
Another on the roof;
A half a dozen kissed the eaves,
And made the gables laugh.

A few went out to help the brook,
That went to help the sea.
Myself conjectured, Were they pearls,
What necklaces could be!

The dust replaced in hoisted roads
The birds jocoser sung;
The sunshine threw his hat away,
The orchards spangles hung.

The breezes brought dejected
And bathed them in the glee;
The East put out a single flag,
And signed the fete away.

happy birthday maman (this necklace for you).

2008

Apparently 2007 was a good year for wine, at least in Nappa. It was also a good year for anyone with a trunk full of gold bullion, although I guess any year could work with a trunk full of gold, depending on the context. Legend has it that my gambling grandfather used to store his gold bullion in the trunk of their Cadillac when the markets were fluctuating.
Seven has never been my lucky number and yet I seemed to have won the lottery on life challenges this year. One after another. Most significant of course was the loss of a parent, but also: moving to the country, aging (40), power, love, disease....lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride...you get the idea.
This blog has become an exercise in general personal catharsis and it seems I have strayed far from the original project. Although my personal challenges will not cease this year, I hope that 2008 may also bring a radiant heated bathroom and at least a couple of functioning wood stoves. Please stay tuned.
Happy New Year.
